Embodied Practices

Healing Through Somatic Movement & Ancestral Medicine

Hello, My name is Marcela Enriquez Wakeham, I am a Senior Yoga & Pilates teacher, Somatic Movement Educator, Somatic Experiencing® in training, Peter Levine’s work and a Native American Medicine Woman. I have 20 + years of teaching movement-body-oriented disciplines.

My approach in my Studio Practice at home is to ease up pain, I am advocate of helping people to open up to an entire range of perceptions, feelings and sensations leading us through the profound realisation that we have the power to alleviate our contemporary conditions such as anxiety, self-doubt, the feeling of not belonging, inadequacy, and the lack of self-love.

I also Co-host with my husband Mat Wakeham The Body Knows, a Podcast ⁣⁣that explores the human capacity for healing, transforming and awakening to life.

Since 2009 I have been teaching Anatomy and Physiology of movement in Still Flowing Yoga Teacher Training alongside my dear friend and mentor Gemma Mallol  the director of the training.

My passion is embodiment, supporting people to find authentic self-expression, with a clear teachings: The mind-body connection is made through movement

Welcome to my website, my hope is that we can work together.

Frequently Asked Questions

My experience with injuries has been a constant conversation with my own body, they teach me how to respect my self and keep my compassion heart open. As an experiential anatomist and body educator my aim is to help people understand their bodies, further in the practice to help them to respect and offer choices. I believe that becoming more aware with our movements affect the choices we make in relation to our life and to our environment. My aim is to contribute with their own embodiment and not just heal at an Injury level, but to a wider and more holistic way.

Marcela is amazing, for both beginners and advanced she guided us through a completely different routine every session to work through our entire body, breathing techniques and meditation. Marcela is so inspiring and motivating. I never thought I would have the patience or stamina to last twice daily for the week, but thanks to Marcela I’ve been able to attend every class and continue the good work now I’m back in the UK.

I look forward to Marcela’s class, and am disappointed when I have to miss it through work commitments. Marcela’s class combines Pilates, Yoga and Mindfulness. After my weekly class, I feel centered, stretched, invigorated, uplifted and more attune with my body. After one year of taking the class I feel stronger, more grounded, my body is more aligned which helps me in my life and work.

I just wanted to thank you for the beautiful insights you gave me in anatomy and the sense of the body in general! I do a lot of self-practice every day now, doing non-habitual movements, “weirdo-movements” I have such a different feeling of my body now. I feel light and relaxed and this is great! And I am grateful for this. Your approach and your way of teaching it, really impressed me and changed my view of yoga and the daily practice. Thank you!
